Nobody Cares. But, You Should!
Dear Diary,
I was recently at an event. It doesn’t matter the event, because every event is exactly like this event. It was like every other event in that everyone at the event was super fired up about the event. In fact, the entire event was contingent on just that - everyone being at the event.
There is a certain freedom in caring about something. Much like how discipline is freedom, caring about something is also freeing. Fuck you, I like my thing!
It made me realize that nobody cares. But it is not at all a reflection of this event, its a reflection of every event ever. Nobody cares - and, nobody should, frankly. Can you imagine how much more annoying the world would be if everybody actually DID care? A nightmare.
Nobody really cares. There’s a narrative that young people today care a lot about everything. But they really don’t. There’s just a ton of platforms to complain through. They’re really more bored than anything. My dad gets upset too, he just keeps it to himself because he’s an adult. I’m sure if he had Facebook it would be crazy, however Italians (still, in 2025) are not allowed to have Facebook.
I do believe a lot of people want to care, though. It’s just a lot of effort. But, really think about it. You don’t want to be a good person. Its exhausting. Have you ever met a “good person” before? It makes you feel like shit. Not very good, huh? Life is complicated.
Anyway, this event, which should have made me feel terrible and heartbroken for how horribly vacant the void is, actually had the opposite effect - it made me feel empowered.
Here I am, with a ton of people who just don’t care, that nobody else cares, that they care. That is freeing as fuck. They’re here, having a genuine good time, and its because its making them feel good and connected. That’s it!
Care about your own thing, not everything.
